LUNAWOOD

LUNAWOOD

WHAT IS LUNAWOOD?

LUNAWOOD THERMOWOOD is a beautiful, sustainable wood material produced by using natural methods, heat and steam. Thermal modification improves the wood’s properties, thereby expanding the range of applications in which the wood can be used. Thermowood is dimensionally stable, resistant to decay and resin free. It can be used inside or outdoors, in any climate. Lunawood is an non-toxic natural product which is easy to machine and install.

WHY TO USE LUNAWOOD?

1.  DIMENSION STABILITY

Lowered equilibrium moisture content of Thermowood makes it dimensionally stable and the material retains its shape far better than untreated wood.

2.  RESIN FREE

Resin is removed from the wood during the thermal modification process. As result, the wood does not secrete resin even high temperatures.

3.  NON-TOXIC

Thermowood is produced using only natural methods, heat and steam. Lunawood products are completely natural and free from chemical additives.

4.  ALL CLIMATES

Thermowood does not react to changes in temperature or humidy as drastically as untreated wood. Material is proven to work well in different climates.

5.  WEATHER ENDURANCE

As result of thermal modification, Finnish types of woods are transformed into durable, weather endurance building material. LunaThermo D has decay resistance class 2.

6.  THERMAL INSULATION

Tests have shown that the thermal conductivity of Thermowood is reduced by around 20-25% compared to untreated coniferous wood.

KEY FEATURES OF LUNAWOOD:

1.  SOUND KNOTTED

Scandinavian pine has many butterfly shaped knots, which give a strong impression of natural material. Lunawood uses only sound knotted wood to ensure the high quality of our final products. We call it natural luxury.

2.  SMOOTH SURFACE

Thermowood is an excellent material for industrial planing. The surface of the planed wood is particularly smooth. The wooden surface has an elegant finish and it´s pleasant to touch.

3.  WARM TONE

The wood material of the Thermowood is consistently the same color. Quality control ensures that the hue stays inside certain color values. When the beautiful brown shade is desired to maintain, Thermowood products need to be surface treated with wood oil or similar. Without the surface treatment Thermowood turns grey due to UV-radiation.

4.  DURABILITY CLASS 2

LunaThermo-D belonging to durability class 2 has a projected service life of 30+ years when resistance to decay is considered (BRE). Due to the breakdown of hemicellulose (sugar chains), the wood no longer contains sufficient nutrients to support fungi. Lunawood is suitable for above ground solutions and not for continuous soil or water contact.

5.  HEART WOOD

Lunawood planed products are made of heartwood of eco certified Scandinavian pine. Only the best raw material, carefully chosen hard core of top log is used.

PRODUCTS OF LUNAWOOD:

1.  FACADES

Thermowood is an outstanding choice for exterior claddings and facades. Our product range also provides wide cladding boards produced by utilizing glue lamination technology. Thanks to the thermal modification and gluing, we are able to offer 210 mm wide sound knotted, durable cladding boards with outstanding dimensional stability. Thermowood allows Scandinavian softwood to be successfully used in hot and humid weather conditions. In addition, all our cladding products have the European conformity CE mark.

2.  LUNAWOOD DECKING

Lunawood is an outstanding decking material due to its stability and durability. Improved insulation properties make Lunawood an excellent choice for decking since it balances the changes of heat and cold and makes it pleasant to walk on even when barefoot. Lunawood decking is resin- and toxic-free, lightweight, and easy to install. Lunawood’s unique PROFIX hidden fixing clip enables quick and easy installation of the deck and creates a clean and elegant appearance without visible screws. It is an ecological and chemical-free solution for creating the finishing touch to any outdoor surrounding.

3.  LUNARWOOD SOLAR SHADES

Lunawood Thermowood solar shades are an ecological way of cooling buildings without consuming extra energy. When using Lunawood, you can prevent excessive solar from overheating the interiors with material that binds CO2 and hence is lowering the carbon footprint of the building. Further, due to the stability of Lunawood you can use it in mobile sunscreen systems with opening and closing mechanisms. Solar shade profiles can be used in many ways indoors and outdoors; fences, partitions, effect walls, ceilings etc. Thermowood is a modern architectural material and the combination with steel, concrete and glass creates a beautiful contemporary look with a soft, natural finish.

4.  LUNAWOOD INTERIOR

The appearance of Lunawood is pleasant to touch and warm with a rich tone. It is highly suitable for paneling and flooring; creating a cozy atmosphere in any interior. The boards are light, easy to cut, shape and install. In addition to its attractive appearance the thermal modification of wood eliminates the risk of harmful emissions such as formaldehydes. This makes the wood pure, safe and hygienic for indoor use even for those consumers prone to wood-related reactions. We believe that people feel better and healthier when surrounded by natural materials.

SAUNA AND SPA

Lower thermal conductivity and improved stability of thermally modified wood makes Lunawood an excellent product in hot and humid environments. Furthermore, it is a hygienic material without resin and this broadens the variety of end uses and applications. Thermowood is one of the most used materials in saunas and is excellent for spa interiors.

5.  LUNAWOOD FRAMES AND BEARERS

Thermowood is an endurable, safe material for many kinds of garden and outdoor structures. Out of our planed profiles it´s easy to create a dream wooden garden with pergolas and partition walls. It will become a natural eye catcher as an attractive walkway, ideal for climbing plants with its airy construction. Pergolas provide privacy and give shade to cool off from the heat of the sun. A stylish partition wall defines the borders in gardens or built environment in a natural way.

INDUSTRIAL USE

1.  SAWN TIMBER AND INDUSTRIAL USE

Lunawood Thermowood is a great raw material for further processing in industrial use. It is an excellent material for interior and exterior doors, windows and furniture. Thanks to its durability and ability to retain original shape and measurements, Lunawood Thermowood can withstand highly demanding conditions. Other improved properties like better insulation capacity or the fact that Lunawood does not contain any chemicals, are certainly advantageous and important from an industrial perspective. You can choose rough-sawn or machined Thermowood in pine and spruce, in several different dimensions.

2.  LUNAWOOD THERMOWOOD PLASTIC COMPOSITE (TWPC)

In construction projects, you have to have confidence in the materials used. Lunawood Thermowood Plastic Composite (TWPC) is the most stable wood composite decking available on the market. It holds its own against changes in temperature better than any other composite material. The natural length variation is only 1 mm/meter in circumstances where temperature fluctuates by 50°C. That’s what we call stable! TWPC is an outstanding choice for decks and gardens in both private and public spaces. It is extremely resilient to all weather conditions. Due to the breakdown of hemicellulose (sugar chains), the Thermowood fibers no longer contain sufficient nutrients to support decay-causing fungi. Thermowood fibers used in the composite manufacturing process are a by-product from our own Thermowood production and over 60% of the material is Thermowood. Lunawood composite is PVC free, non-toxic and off-cuts can be burnt or recycled as timber waste (check your local rules in recycling).

1. DEQUE – CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

Deque by Dornbracht

The distinguishing feature of DEQUE is its severe design language that reduces to the flat, wide spout.‎ The new, low fitting lies close to the basin, directing attention to the essential element of this series – the presentation of the water.‎ The striking thing about Deque is contrast. Firstly, between the gentle waterway and the severe shape of the fitting and secondly, between the emphatically planar spout and the cylindrical control elements, a discontinuity of form that is particularly evident in the single-lever mixer.

2. TAILWATER – MINIMALISTIC DESIGN

An upright joystick with symmetry and clear geometric shapes, it creates an impressive outlet for the water. This Powder room is outstanding, it features the incredible Gessi Goccia tapware in black with a ceiling mounted basin spout.  Installing would be a little tricky; considering you’d have to re-route the plumbing. The strong presence of this blue or red power cord makes the sink mixer seem more like a table lamp than an ordinary tap. The Funky design of Switch tap will surely leave your visitors talking, especially when they suddenly realize that on switching on the lamp there won’t be any light. Instead, the lamp pours a rushing stream of water. It will indeed be a fun addition to your kitchen space, leaving your guests wondering what just happened.

WALL MOUNTED PROGRESSIVE HANDLE WASH BASIN MIXER

3. ACQUAVIVA – MODERN DESIGN

Acquaviva by Bongio

This type of faucet is mounted on the wall instead of the sink or the countertop. These faucets work best with above-the-counter or freestanding sinks as they do not have any pre-drilled holes within them. Depending on how our bathroom is organized, you might be able to get a wall-mounted faucet ready.

They look neat, are easy to clean and make room for some extra countertop space. These faucets require a water supply line exactly behind the sink, along with wall-mounted valves (devices used to control the flow of water). Make sure that the sink is deep and the spout is long, with an extended reach that prevents water from splashing on the floor or the countertop.

By virtue of its elegant yet progressive design, VAIA harmoniously blends into traditional and modern-minimalistic architectures, as well as those that combine elements of different styles. A characteristic feature of VAIA are the soft radii, the fine silhouette and the flowing transitions. The conical rosettes appear to almost merge with the washstand. The craftsmanship is precise, down to the last detail: the joints are meticulously defined and the hidden aerator remains unnoticed until the water flows.

Sensor Faucet by Slon

Touchless faucets seem like a technological miracle as you place your hand under the spout and water starts flowing like magic. Touchless faucets, also known as automatic faucets or sensor faucets, have four key components: sensor, solenoid-controlled valve, power source, and spout.

PROS:

But this design has been taken much further by the engineers to save water as well as energy. A solar powered faucet? Yes.  Apparently, this faucet works with ambient light much like a solar calculator. Solar panels embedded in the crown draw power from artificial and natural light sources.

FUNCTIONALITY

Following are five spray types which provide options to adjust the flow rate, look and feel of the water.

1. MULTI LAMINAR SPRAY

Multi-laminar spray offers a special washing experience. Numerous little nozzles join forces to produce an extensive, abundant and pleasantly effervescent stream of water – a shower sensation for your hands.

2. FULL STREAM AERATED

Aerators introduce air into the water stream to produce a larger and whiter stream that is soft to the touch and non-splashing. Aerators are the usual choice for residential faucet applications.

3. FULL STREAM LAMINAR

Laminar stream straighteners produce a non-aerated water stream. Ideal for high-flow applications or health care facilities (no mix of water/air). Full stream laminar spout-end devices deliver a crystal-clear and non-splashing stream.

4. SPRAY STREAM

When the flow rate is too low to produce an aerated or laminar stream, a spray device is used to produce a miniature shower pattern to provide full coverage of the hands during washing.
Sprays are recommended for use in public lavatories.

5. MIKADO STREAM (DESIGN)

The unique Mikado stream turns the water into an eye-catcher when washing your hands. Its extraordinary, grid-like spray pattern – formed by individual water jets – makes for a clear, delicate and harmonious design.

6. WATERFALL STREAM

The peculiar waterfall stream of the Axor massaud is a treat to the eyes while washing hands. The soft gush spray is reminiscent of a waterfall. It is clear that Axor Massaud products are more than just faucets. Yet another proof that water is an eternal source of inspiration for designers and artists!

A Guide to selecting the Perfect Washbasin for your Home.

A Guide to selecting the Perfect Washbasin for your Home.

The truth is that choosing the perfect washbasin can be a bit overwhelming, but only when you’re not sure what you’re looking for. Firstly, you will need to consider which room you are shopping for (master ensuite, family bathroom, powder room, kids bathroom, etc.), who will use the room and how much space you have.

So before you set off to buy the right wash basin, sit back and relax, have a read, and then head out armed with all the knowledge you need to assist narrow down the best choices for you and your home.

1. TOP MOUNT BASIN

washbasin
This basin is apparently, the most ordinarily used basin, a top mount, or ‘drop-in sink’, because the name suggests, is intended to sit on top of the bench.
Basically, most of the basin sits below the benchtop, with simply the rim of the basin sitting on top of, and visual higher than, the benchtop. The rim will either be terribly slim or a little chunkier just like the one pictured, reckoning on the design you select.

PROS:

  • Top-mount basins area inappropriate with just about any benchtop material together with timber and laminate, because the cut out is totally coated by the basin and thus doesn’t risk being destroyed by water.
  • They’re additionally less expensive to install into a stone benchtop as a result of they don’t need gruelling sprucing of the cutout edges like an under-mount
CONS:

  • You cannot wipe water and spills straight from the bench into the basin.
BEST SUITABLE FOR:

  • Elegant ensuites and minimalist schemes.

2. UNDER MOUNTED BASIN

washbasin
An under-mount basin is one that sits beneath the benchtop. The rim of the sink is fastened to the bottom of the benchtop, as opposite sitting on top of it.

PROS:

  • This creates a really seamless, clean look, as less of the particular basin is visible. Another advantage is that water and spills may be wiped directly from the benchtop into the sink with none obstruction, creating it an excellent, easy-to-clean addition to the family lavatory.
CONS:

  • Under-mounting a basin can sometimes solely be attached beneath a solid surface benchtop like stone and isn’t appropriate with a laminate benchtop because it can’t be sealed against water.
  • They are a little expensive when compared to top mount basins.
BEST SUITABLE FOR:

  • Busy family bathrooms.

3. WALL MOUNTED BASIN

washbasin
A simple wall-mounted basin is one that’s fastened on to the wall without having it to take a seat in or on a benchtop. It’s efficient and provides a minimalist feeling to the space that it’s in.

PROS:

  • A wall-mounted basin doesn’t have any cupboards below it, that saves on the space in the area and conjointly leaves additional visible floor space, creating more space. So as for a wall mounted basin to figure in your house, all the plumbing, as well as the waste, should be positioned within the enclosing in order to possess a clean look.
CONS:

  • There is no cupboard space and there’s a scarcity of ‘landing space’ thanks to the absence of a benchtop.
  • Consider your storage in your bathroom before choosing a wall-mounted basin and perhaps reserve it for the powder room or wherever the storage isn’t as necessary.
BEST SUITABLE FOR:

  • Small area

4. PEDESTAL WASHBASIN

If your basin preference may be an easy wall-mounted basin, however, your drainpipe has to undergo the ground and can’t be modified, then a pedestal basin would be a great option.

PROS:

  • The pedestal beneath the basin sits between the bottom of the basin and also the floor, concealing any pipe in between.
  • A pedestal basin is additionally gorgeously pleasing and excellent if you would like to feature a classical ambience to your lavatory.
CONS:

  • Again, take into account the very fact that you just won’t have any cupboard space beneath the basin or any bench area around it. It will even be a difficult task to scrub around, as there’s sometimes a spot between the wall and also the back of the pedestal (as pictured here).
BEST SUITABLE FOR:

  • Period properties and traditional schemes.

5. SEMI-RECESSED BASIN

If your lavatory or ensuite has restricted house, however, you’d still like some vanity cupboards below your basin for storage, then a semi-recessed basin can be the answer you need.

PROS:

  • A semi-recessed basin sits proudly at the front of cupboards, and also the benchtop that it sits on, permitting you to own a lot of shallower cupboards – perhaps whilst shallow as 300mm, depending on the basin you select. This frees up valuable floor space.
  • It also keeps plenty of the bench space free for your cosmetics and product. Very likely pedestal basin, they’re a good possibility for kids and folks with restricted mobility, as you’ll be able to meet up with to the basin to reach the faucet without the obstruction of a benchtop and cupboards.
CONS:

  • The space for storing beneath is less. Also, as a result of there isn’t any benchtop round the front of the basin to catch water, splashes, and spills onto the ground are more common, particularly if you have got kids in the house.
BEST SUITABLE FOR:
